The Huacapurana tree (Campsiandra angustifolia) is native to the Amazon rainforest and has been used by healers in Peru for centuries. The common name Huacapurana has also been used for other species, but in Peru, the ‘authentic Huacapurana’ is Campsiandra angustifolia. The tree produces small white-to-pinkish flowers with red stamens and a large bean pod form which the ground seeds provide ‘chigo flour’—a food for people and livestock. Other common names for Campsiandra angustifolia are Gapo and, in Brazil, Cumandá.
