The Vitamin Shoppe Premium Wild Alaskan Fish Oil is sourced from wild-caught Alaskan Pollock from Alaska's Bering Sea. Comprising over 775,000 square miles in area, the Bering Sea is one of the world's most pristine and productive ecosystems for marine life. The fish are sourced using responsible catch restrictions and sustainable fishing practices, such as selective fishing practices where there is less than 1% bycatch of non-target species and they are not disrupting the sea floor.

 

 

This fish oil is certified as sustainable by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), which covers the chain of custody and traceability. When certifying a product as sustainable, MSC evaluates the following 3 criteria:

 

• Sustainable fish stock - fishing must be at a level that ensures it can continue indefinitely and the fish population can remain productive and healthy.
• Minimizing environmental impact - fishing activity is managed carefully so that other species and habitats within the ecosystem remain healthy.
• Effective fishery management - fisheries must comply with relevant laws and be able to adapt to changing environmental circumstances and scientific advancements. Fisheries are encouraged to develop new ways of conserving marine resources for future generations.
